Coriander Cottages

The Eden Project

If you're looking for a fascinating and educational day out, then head over to the Eden Project, just 15 minutes drive from Coriander Cottages. Created in a disused china clay pit outside St Austell, the Eden Project displays the diversity and riches of the world's flora and explores the relationship between plants and people.

The Project has two amazing biomes, the Humid Rainforest Tropics Biome (which, at 50m, is the largest greenhouse in the world) and the Warm Temperate Biome (filled with beautiful plants from the Mediterranean and South America). There is also a wonderful food hall, selling organic and homemade food.

Gardens of Cornwall

Cornwall is famed for its magnificent gardens. As well as the Eden Project, we are just a short distance from the magical gardens of Trebah and Trewithen. The National Trust property of Lanhydrock and The Lost Gardens of Heligan, rediscovered in 1990 after 75 years of neglect, are just a short drive away from us, along with the quaint harbourside town of Mevagissey.

There are many smaller gardens locally, including the Pine Lodge Gardens, Old Mill Herbary and Marsh Villa Gardens. We provide more information on these gardens in our rooms.

For more information, visit the Gardens of Cornwall website.

Other Places of Interest in Cornwall

Cornwall is a place of dramatic extremes.  The north Coast with it's spendid beaches and rugged cliffs fending off the Atlantic Ocean.  It's towns of St Ives (90 mins from Fowey) with the Tate Gallery will stretch your imagination.  Padstow (45 mins) is the home of Rick Stein's famous sea food restaurant and Port Isaac (40 mins) hosts ITV's Doc Martin with Martin Clunes.  In the middle lie the moors, mines and the great industrial steam engine heritage.

The city of Truro has 800 years of history. It also contains in proportion the most independent shops of any town or city. The South Coast is warmed by the Gulf Stream and has many world renowned gardens.  Penzance (90 mins away) is the gateway to the Isle of Scilly, Falmouth (60 mins) is the great maritime centre, across the Carrick rocks lays St Mawes and the delightful Rose pensinsula.  Across our bay is Charlestown, where the four master ships berth, the setting for numerous films including Disney and the Poldark TV series. To the East, step back in time at Looe and Polperro.  The Monkey Sanctuary at Looe promotes environmental and natural wildlife conservation as well as offering a refuge for over 40 years.
